I guess I'll kick it off with an explanation of the "Cash for Clunkers" program that so keenly killed my job.
First
off, for those who don't know the terminology, a "Clunker" is a kaput
or semi-kaput automobile. The program was intended to provide
"incentive" to buy newere cars with better environmental ratings by
buying the old car from the person with a higher than normal
value(cash). Sounds good, right?
Not really. It provided a lot
of people access to new cars, and in that sense it was good. That was
all. The government bought out the bankrupt General Motors, then gave
the people the clunker's tickets to buy new cars. Win-Win, EH? When the
smog settled, it left a lot of dealers and resale companies, such as
auctions(my old job) without cars to resell because they were destroyed
after buyout. Whats more, it drove the resale values higher than they
have ever been since there are less of the used cars available. A way
to recover a recession, doubtful. Marketed as such? Yes.
Thats enough of a negative rant for now.
Q: What would you get if you crossed Albert Einstien and Barrak Obama?
A: E= MC Hammer
